Ralph received a B.A. from Memorial University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Sociology at both McMaster University and the University of British Columbia. He has published five books and over 150 research articles, reports and essays on such wide-ranging topics as regional disparity, infertility, blood donation, nursing, common property organization, salmon aquaculture, social capital, genomics knowledge, and environmental neuroethics.

Ralph’s administrative experience includes service as President of the Canadian Sociology Association, Section President of the International Sociological Association, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies (McMaster), and Social Science and Humanities Research Coordinator, Vice-President Research Office (UBC). His former community volunteering includes service as a Boy Scout Leader and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Guelph General Hospital. Having joined the ASK Board in 2018, Ralph is Chair of the ASK Long-Range Planning Committee.
